The terraced houses of North Melbourne
Are doing a half arsed cover
Of the Ancient Wonders of the World’s
“Hanging Gardens of Babylon.”
Surely they had more on show,
down by that famous River,
than wilted cosmos plants,
and petunias that shiver.
Though on the other hand, it may well simply be
the “Wonder” wasn’t in the beauty,
but in the landscaping faux pas,
those ancient folks did see!
Not wanting to stay in anger,
at the North Gardens too long
I shall sit down and softly weep,
just as they did in Babylon.
