The city has left him homeless again
Lights averted their bulbs, leaving him to traipse the dark
The cars have dipped their headlights at him
So he gathers yesterdays news and wraps himself
Outside a zoo filled with books and those who read them
Not hungry, for the kind souls of the world have fed him
Not naked, for the generous have shared their clothes
But the longing pulls taught in him
A rubber band stretched to its limits
His eyes seen, but not looked into,
As another car dips its lights.
